FAUX SUEDE FRINGE STOCKING DIY

FAUX SUEDE FRINGE STOCKING DIY

I’m pretty sure that stockings were actually the very first thing that I learned how to sew with my Mom when I was growing up. They were pretty simple designs but I definitely remember the pride I felt in hanging them up for Christmas knowing that I had made them all by myself (with a little help from Mom, I’m sure). Since this is our first Christmas with our daughter Lola, I thought it would be fun to make some family stockings for the mantel to celebrate this extra special holiday! I love the texture and look of faux suede, so we partnered with EverSewn to incorporate that in some way and a layered fringe look felt like the perfect route.

PERSONALIZE YOUR DENIM WITH EMBROIDERY!

PERSONALIZE YOUR DENIM WITH EMBROIDERY!

Friends, I could NOT be more excited to share this post today! We’re talking about how to personalize denim (jackets, shirts, etc.) with embroidery—so get excited! We’ve also got a little free pattern download for you as well, so stayed tuned for that!

We worked with EverSewn on this post. I used the EverSewn Hero to complete these projects. The Hero is a combination sewing and embroidery machine (it can do both!), so if you are interested in embroidery and/or in the market for a sewing machine, I would totally recommend this one. It’s got a number of features that I like, which I’ll share more about through this post, but also, ahem, it’s a really CUTE machine. And I don’t know about you, but my sewing machine is pretty much always sitting out in my craft/home office area, so it gets major bonus points for being cute in addition to being useful. 🙂

DIY Faux-Embroidered Wall Art

DIY Faux-Embroidered Wall Art

I’ve been having the most fun exploring everything this fancy schmancy new EverSewn sewing machine can do! I swear, it’s sorcery. This thing has a zillion different stitches and even an alphabet so you can stitch words on your projects. I was messing with some of the decorative stitches and the scrap of fabric I was experimenting on started looking like cool, modern embroidery. So obviously a new project was born! This old project lives in Hank’s room now, and I wanted something similar for the new baby’s nursery. And here it is!

Pizza Plush DIY

Pizza Plush DIY

One of my favorite skill sets I have from living the “homeschooled-and-my-mom-is-an-art-teacher” life growing up is that my mom taught me to sew simple projects. I would make stockings for Christmas and hem pants. Then in my teen years, I started my own fashion label called FlipSide and sewed my own, uh, unique creations. Thankfully I am no longer sewing velvet panels into the sides of my pants, but I can still make a few fun projects with the sewing knowledge I’ve retained.

Since we’ve been adding some really cute touches to Elsie’s kid’s room lately (like these cactus plush and succulent garden plush DIYs), I thought it would be fun to create a pizza plush to add to the room as well! As sewing projects go, it’s pretty simple, but it looks totally legit once put together. Especially since we got to work with our friends at EverSewn sewing machines for this project. Not only are their machines cute, but they're super easy to use! And as a bonus, they're giving away one of their machines and a Starter Kit to one lucky reader! You can learn more about the giveaway below. Let’s get started!

DIY Easy-Sew Baby Harem Bloomers

DIY Easy-Sew Baby Harem Bloomers

You’d think that I was a regular Donna Reed up in here, sewing all of these goodies for baby girl! Truth be told, I only sew if it’s easy. So you can rest assured that none of these sewing projects are terribly scary in any way. In fact, if you can sew in a straight line you can tackle these. And I can’t stand how cute these little bloomers turned out, so I’ll probably end up making her a bunch more of them. It was also another chance to use my new EverSewn machine, which I’m completely smitten with. I realized as I was sewing these the other day that I was doing it while Ryan was on a work call in the same room and it was totally quiet! My old machine was crazy loud but this one barely makes a peep. Like, I could sew these in the same room while the kids were napping and I would still be golden. I’m into that.

How to Sew Mini Crib Sheets

How to Sew Mini Crib Sheets

I was so stoked when we found a perfect mini-crib for Baby #2, and then I realized that we needed mini crib sheets. Duh, mom. Turns out mini crib sheets are out there, but they’re all slightly different sizes and there’s just not as much selection when it comes to patterns or fabric. I sewed a bunch of crib sheets for Hank when he was born and just decided to bite the bullet and do the same for Baby Girl! I was actually kind of pumped to do it, because I had just teamed up with EverSewn and got to sew on their fancy schmancy newsewing machine. Hoooooo-boy, this thing makes my old sewing machine feel like cavewoman days. It’s totally intuitive and I set it up in a flash (even though I consider myself a very basic seamstress). It’s simple enough to navigate for little projects like this one, but I’m also planning some more in-depth projects to really test out the fun features it has. If you’re looking for a new machine I can’t recommend this one enough!

But seriously, let’s make my baby some crib sheets.
