Ignite Your Creative Spark

Inspiration can be found everywhere if you’re looking for it! The EverSewn team is diverse in the ways that we craft, but what we have in common is finding our creative spark in the most unlikely of places. We want you to see things through your creative lens, too! It’s a great way to stay motivated in your creative pursuits and it keeps your brain busy thinking about all the things you want to create.

Look outside your craft of choice

At EverSewn, we have garment sewists, quilters, casual sewists, knitters, and scrapbookers on our team. We all take inspiration from each other’s projects and get ideas on techniques to apply to our own crafty pursuits. After all - isn’t scrapbooking just quilting with paper or knitting just putting colors together in a beautiful way? It’s all color palettes and personal expression and some trial and error. In fact, even just observing the creativity of others can light a spark to go forth and create beautiful things!

Travel

No, we don’t mean taking exotic trips across the world (though, if you can - even better!). We just mean get out of your normal environment. Take a walk around your neighborhood and try to see things with new eyes. Take a local road trip and notice the things that draw your attention and think about why. Do you love the color palette of the yellow fields, red barn, and blue sky? Obsessed with the tile pattern at a new coffee shop? Feeling inspired by the shape of the buildings around you? Heck, even moving locations within your house can get the creative juices flowing again.

Brainstorm ways to incorporate things that naturally draw your eye when you’re out and about into your craft projects. There are endless possibilities and having a camera always on you to snap photos of things you love makes it even better!

Make use of downtime

It really stinks when your doctor is running late or your next meeting has been delayed, but instead of grabbing your phone and mindlessly scrolling, take a look around you! Even the most mundane places may have ideas you can bring to your next project. If you’re not finding inspiration in your surroundings, try doodling on a scrap piece of paper. Even if you don’t typically draw, just doodling can put your brain in a relaxed and creative state. On a recent outing with the EverSewn team, we were pointing out beautiful tile patterns, poster layouts, the use of white space on a restaurant menu, and even talked about how city maps can lend inspiration to create!

Have a beginner’s mind

Have you heard that phrase before? Approaching your craft pursuits with a beginner’s mind can really open up the possibilities. Beginners don’t know what’s “not possible” and see a new craft as an endless possibility of creative expression. Try to throw the “rules” out the window and just make! A beginner’s mind allows you to not be tied to a specific end result but rather just enjoy the process of crafting with your own two hands (and a crafting room full of supplies, of course). Crafting with kids is a great way to get yourself in that open state of mind - kids see nothing but possibility when they open their crayon box and have a fresh piece of paper in hand. So grab your latest project and try to see it the way a kindergartner would - full of imagination and open to all the possibilities!
