Notions and Craft Supplies

For our pom pom crafts, we took our inspiration from the book, ‘A Very Pom Pom Christmas’ by Jemima Schlee, which can be purchased through your local EverSewn dealer or quilt shop. Let your imagination jingle all the way as you embark on your pom pom journey with the book’s easy-to-follow instructions and ample pictures. Create miniature pom pom trees, wreaths, soft ornaments, tasseled and fringed garlands, or gift package toppers.

Pom Pom Holiday Decor Ideas and Tips

Once you have all of your notions, just follow along with the directions on the back of the Pom Pom Maker Set! To begin making our pom pom, we wound multiple layers of yarn around the pom pom tool. Be careful not to leave any open space on the plastic tool so that your pom pom crafts are nice and full.

As a helpful hint, we recommend that you exercise caution and avoid pulling on the yarn too tightly. When cutting, the yarn ‘snaps back,’ and the pieces are rendered too small and an inconsistent length.

Now that you’ve mastered making your own pom poms, why not try this adorable snowman ornament from ‘A Very Pom Pom Christmas’? This frosty little fellow would be an excellent addition to any tree and is sure to inspire joy.

One of the best parts about making your own pom poms is that not you’re limited to off the shelf colors: many of the pom pom crafts featured in the book can be adapted for use with not only a single color of yarn but also with a variegated yarn or multiple colors of yarn. ‘A Very Pom Pom Christmas’ also includes instructions and demonstrations on how to make a split color pom pom. Get creative!

Looking for something a little larger than an ornament? The book also features a pom pom tree as a beautiful tabletop centerpiece, as well as a door wreath, and a garland to hang anywhere you chose.

Still have some leftover yarn? You don’t have to stop there! Raid your stash even further and follow our quick and easy hack to make your own tassels to coordinate with your finished pom poms – just like in our garland.

To begin making a 4-inch long tassel we utilized the cardboard packaging of the Pom Pom Maker, tied it off, and slid the tassel off of the cardboard. It’s that easy! Tassels can also be made using this same method with embroidery floss, ribbons, metallic yarns, or even chenille stems.

The pom pom door wreath, when created with a rich red or pink and shaped into a heart would be an excellent Valentine’s Day gift. And the pom pom garland could be created in your favorite team colors for any game day event.
